Garage Fire on East Bayberry Road

     

Thursday, December 28, 2017 05:24 At 5:24 am on Thursday December 28th 2017 the Islip FD was dispatched to a report of a garage fire at 136 East Bayberry Road. After dispatch Chief Moon was advised by Islip dispatch that the Suffolk County Police Department was on the scene advising an active garage fire. Chief Moon arrived shortly after confirming a heavy smoke condition and transmitted the working fire. Crews found heavy fire in a 3 car detached garage set back far from the street down a long driveway with a loft living space above. Islip crews stretched 2 attack hose lines and quickly extinguished the fire while truck crews performed searches and opened up for extension. Islip crews battled the freezing temperatures which caused a major icing condition at the scene. Mutual aid was provided by the East Islip Fire Department for a FAST team and the Exchange Ambulance of the Islips and the Bay Shore Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance, Inc. for EMS coverage at the scene. There were 3 occupants in the structure at the time of the fire and were all able to evacuate prior to arrival.
