Pedestrian Fatally injured in Parkway Accident

On the evening of Friday February 20, 2009, the Islip FD responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident on the Southern State Parkway in the vacinity of the Commack Road overpass. Units were advised that the patient was reported to have serious personal injuries and that Suffolk County Police Aviation Bureau was on standby in the event that a MEDEVAC was required. Upon arrival Chief Joseph S. Marino found a 22 year old male critically injured after being struck by a vehicle on the parkway.

Ambulance 3-4-6 arrived and its crew began to treat the male for a major head injury. Islip crews also responded to assist with traffic control. The patient was quickly moved to Exchange Ambulance's unit 3-27-20 and transported to Southside Hospital with Islip FD EMS on board assisting. Unfortuantely, the patient expired at the hospital.
