On the afternoon of Wednesday December 3rd 2008, the Islip FD responded for a report of a vehicle fire on the corner of Buffalo Ave and Orleans St. Ex-Chief Richard Ackerson Sr. was the first to arrive who confirmed an involved auto. Neighbors reported that they were unsure if the vehicle was occupied so Ex-Chief Ackerson took out the drivers window to check for possible victims. Chief Patch then arrived on the scene to assist with a scan for any victims in the car, which proved negative. The vehicles engine compartment was involved which extended to the brush around it.
Engine 3-4-2 was first due who picked up a hydrant and stretched out 2 booster lines. The fire was quickly knocked down only extending to a small area of brush around it. Islip crews opened up and secured the vehicles. There were no injuries reported at the scene. SCPD notified Islip FD personell that the vehicle was reportedly stolen. Suffolk Arson Squad was requested to the scene for an investigation.
