The main body of the fire was knocked down quickly and extensive overhaul began. Due to the multiple rooms involved in this fire Islip crews a lengthy overhaul process followed and crewswere met with multiple hot spots and flare ups. A third handline was also put into operation in support of the overhaul process. During overhaul Ladder 3-4-11's bucket was used to access a corner of the house that was inaccessable by interior crews because the floor was compromized by the intensive fire load. The fire was placed under control by Islip command within one hour of alarm activation.

Mutual aid was provided by the Islip Terrace Fire Department which provided a  ladder and ambulance, the Brentwood Fire Department for a Ladder, Bay Shore Fire Department for an engine, Exchange and Bay Shore-Brightwaters Ambulance, which each provided  two ambulances.
